Glamping Umbria
Umbria is the green heart of Italy: hills with olive groves and sunflowers, medieval towns on the hilltops, and no coastline to draw the crowds. Assisi and Perugia are within an hour, and the train from Foligno gets you to Rome in just over an hour. In July and August it's around 29 degrees, in May and September a pleasant 20 to 24.
At Camping Pian di Boccio you stay at an eighty-hectare agriturismo, among the olive and walnut trees. There are three swimming pools, a restaurant that cooks with its own farm produce, a mini-market and a fishing pond. Tennis, volleyball, archery and mountain bike trails are all on the estate itself. The Safari Lodges and Desert Lodges are spaced well apart, offering plenty of privacy.

Umbria — more than just glamping
Discover what makes the Umbria region so special — from breathtaking nature to rich culture and endless activities.
LOCATION & CLIMATE Umbria is the green heart of Italy, south of Tuscany and with no coastline. The campsite is set on an eighty-hectare estate, amid olive and walnut trees. The climate is Mediterranean with warm, dry summers: around 29 degrees in July and August, and around 20 to 24 in May and September. Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto are all within an hour, and by train from Foligno you'll be in Rome in just over an hour.
NATURE Rolling hills with olive groves, sunflower fields and oak woods, interspersed with deep valleys. Lake Trasimeno is big enough for swimming and boating. In the Sibillini Mountains and on Monte Subasio above Assisi, footpaths climb above the tree line. The Marmore Falls near Terni plunge almost 165 metres in three tiers.
ACTIVITIES Walk and cycle from the estate itself, or further afield in the mountains around Assisi. You can swim in the campsite pool and in Lake Trasimeno. Nearby there are olive oil and wine tastings, and in summer the medieval villages put on full programmes of markets and festivals. Rome makes a day trip by train from Foligno.
CULTURE Assisi, birthplace of St Francis, is on the UNESCO list with its basilica and is close by. Perugia is the region's university city, known for chocolate and its jazz festival in July. Smaller towns such as Bevagna and Spello have stayed completely medieval. Umbria is regarded as the home of the Italian truffle; in the villages you can eat them all year round.
